Like your Swimmer Joe posts, he used the article to give local swimmers some "ink", inform the general public on swimming happenings, and as teaching tool for officials...starters in particular. The article dealing with this post included a lesson in proper grammar. Many starters would say, "Take your MARKS". Some with a southern drawl would string out so long that kids would false start on a regular basis. Instead of "Take your Marrrrrrks!", he would teach starters to talk in a steady cadence with the grammatically correct command..."Take your mark".
